Makenna Castor is all smiles in front of the Winchester Cathedral located in Winchester, England. With her are two of the four kids Castor watched. On her left is eight-year-old India Bowhill with four-year-old Olympia Bowhill is on her right. Because the older two were at boarding school during the day, Castor spent most of her time with India and Olympia. (Courtesy photo).

Makenna Castor gains experience as an au pair

Traveling to foreign a country is oftentimes a far off dream for many people. For Makenna Castor, that dream became a reality.
Castor, a 23-year-old Colorado native, had the opportunity to travel to not one, but six different countries.
She explored England, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain and France.
Castor is the daughter of Jeff and Cindy Castor of Imperial. Jeff works for the state and Cindy runs the restaurant at the sale barn.
While living in Dallas, Texas for two years, the opportunity to become an au pair, otherwise known as a nanny, arose when Toby, the Vice President of JCPenney, and wife Gina Bowhill were looking for someone to watch their four children.
After encouragement from friends and family, Castor took the job.
School time rolled around for the two older youths, and Castor was asked to go to Beauworth, England to help Gina, while Toby stayed in Dallas for work.
During the week, Castor would watch the kids and help out with everyday household needs. Weekends were the time to explore more of the city and countryside.
After her responsibilities with the Bowhill’s ended, Castor stayed in the country and traveled.
“I absolutely love traveling, but after visiting Germany and Belgium I was so grateful to get back into countries that spoke more English,” said Castor.
