Frost on the punkin?

Taken from the well-known James Whitcomb Riley poem, there was more than “frost on the punkins” Tuesday when two and a half inches of snow hit Imperial. The surprising day of weather, coming first as rain, then changing to sleet and heavy snow, whitened much of the surfaces in Imperial, including many of the fall and Halloween decorations out in people’s yards and porches. Above, this turkey vulture perched atop a light pole on East 12th Street seemed a bit confused as it kept watch early afternoon, while a Colorado driver hurried by, no doubt interested in getting home before conditions worsened. The snowfall left nearly an inch of moisture after a wet several days beforehand. (Johnson Publications photos)
