Board of Equalization accepts TERC ruling

After a three-week break,  Chase County Commissioners  Dave Hogsett, Chuck Vette and Don Weiss, Jr. meet Feb. 14 for a regular meeting, Board of Equalization meeting and public hearing for the one- and six-year road plans.
After meeting with Deputy Chase County Attorney Rory Roundtree, the board moved not to appeal the Tax Equalization and Review Commission’s (TERC) decision to adjust the 2015 CREP value to $3,300.
The board choose not to address the 2016 cases which have been filed with TERC.
Duane Dinnel was on hand to ask the BOE to correct two 2015 cases which he had appealed, but had mathematical errors. The board took no action on the request.
Dinnel also said it was in the best interest of the board and land owners with filings to be heard by TERC to come to an agreement about 2016 appeals before the June hearings.
Graders and employees
After thinking about Weiss’ suggestion that the county buy another road grader and hire another employee, Hogsett said he feels the county would be better off getting a bigger tractor and road groom, as well as a gravel trailer. Hogsett also said he would take four miles of a “truck route” in Weiss’ district.
Hogsett also tossed out the option of making the emergency supervisor full time and putting that person in a grader.
EMS medical director
Chase County EMS crews are looking for a new medical director after the resignation of Dr. Jon Richman from Chase County Community Hospital.
According to Imperial EMS President Deb Hayes, it would be possible to use a doctor from Benkelman or Grant, but going forward it will probably need to be a paid position.
