Philip Gene Spotts - June 25, 2009

Philip Gene Spotts was struck and killed by an automobile on June 22, 2009, north of Durango, Colo. near Trimble Lane.
Philip was born to Gene and Amilene Spotts on Nov. 11, 1950, in Imperial.
The family moved to Durango in the 50’s where he attended Riverview Elementary, Smiley Junior High and graduated from Durango High School in 1970. He then attended Fort Lewis College.
Philip, who was very patriotic, was engaged in the sale of flags and sold them on army bases as well as on-line. He collected books and mailed hundreds of them to military personnel serving our country overseas. He was very articulate. He loved all pets, especially cats and was an advocate against declawing felines. He had a black and white tuxedo cat name Skunkie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Spotts.
He is survived by his mother, Amilene Spotts; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Darrell Lucht; two nephews, Jay and Justin Wiese; an aunt, Elnor Brown; and two cousins, Susan Kramer and Mike Brown.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 26, 2009, at 11:30 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aztec New Mexico Humane Society where he got Skunkie, La Plata County Humane Society in Durango, Colo. or any animal shelter or refuge.
