Marvin Nygaard - March 13, 2014
?Pastor Marvin Emanuel Nygaard, 98, of Owatonna, Minn., died and was called home to be with Jesus Christ his savior on Feb. 26, 2014, at the Homestead Hospice House with his wife and children at his side.
Marvin was born June 20, 1915, in Bazile Mills, Neb., to Nels and Carrie (Jensen) Nygaard. He graduated from high school in 1933 and then attended Dana College in Blair, Neb., graduating in 1938. He attended Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Blair and then transferred to Grand View Lutheran Seminary in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated in 1945 and was ordained in February 1945.
While at Dana College, Marvin met and married Eva Axelsen on June 17, 1940. They served three parishes in Iowa, two in Illinois, and Dodge Center and Aurora Township in Minnesota. From 1980-1993 Marvin was the visitation pastor for Trinity Lutheran Church.
Marvin was a loving husband, devoted father and compassionate pastor. He loved camping and traveling with his family on vacation and his calling as a pastor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Carrie Nygaard; and son, John Nygaard.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Nygaard of Owatonna; children Joyce Nygaard of Rochester, Minn., Mary and husband Glen Seresse of St. Charles, Minn., Joy and husband Craig Tweedt of Slater, Iowa, and David and wife Vicki Nygaard of Holyoke; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Gerhard Nygaard of Northfield, Minn.; and sister Wilma Hill of Milton, Pa.
Funeral services were held March 1 at Aurora Lutheran Church in Havana, Minn., with Pastor Charles Espe officiating. A private family interment was held at St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
Michaelson Funeral Homes in Owatonna was entrusted with the arrangements.
