Rod married Cathy Ann Lunzmann on Nov. 11, 1978, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial. The couple settled in Imperial, where Rod was employed by a construction company, a well drilling company, an elevator and finally at Midwest Farm Equipment/21st Century where he was still working.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father Paul F. Belau.
