Ivan Satchell - January 23, 2014

Ivan Douglas Satchell, age 71, of Billings, Mont., passed away peacefully, Jan. 14, 2014, at the Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson, Ariz.
Doug was born in Imperial, Neb., on Aug. 2, 1942, to Ivan and Olive (Williams) Satchell. Doug lived in Imperial until 4th grade, when the family moved to the farm where he attended a country school. After attending an agricultural school for two years in Curtis, Neb., he attended Chase County High, graduating with the class of 1960. He attended Santa Monica Jr. College and the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho.
On July 28, 1963, Doug was united in marriage to Karen (Stock) in Wauneta, Neb., where they lived until 1966, when Doug began working for Peavey Grain (later ConAgra) in Kearney, Neb. Doug’s job moved his family several times, eventually retiring in 2000 in Billings, Mont.
Doug loved being retired, starting every day with “What are we going to do today?” and his yellow notepad (thanks Chet) where he planned his day. He was an avid golfer, especially proud of his two hole-in-ones. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden. He loved to travel the states, Europe and Africa, especially with our special traveling friends from Nebraska. He was a Mustang Booster and couldn’t thank them enough for their help this past summer. “Gramps” as he was fondly called by his grandchildren loved camping, horseback riding, going to the lake, anything that gave him special time with his family.
Doug is survived by his wife of 50 yrs, Karen, his daughter Tammy Fritsen of Reno, Nev., sons Dan (Katy) of Bozeman, Mont., and John (Lesli) of Billings, Mont., grandchildren Kole, Tyler, Lauren, Kacy, Abby and Avery; his brother Bill (Jan), brother-in-law Bill Stock, sisters-in-law Karla (Woody) Morford and Debra Stock, father-in-law Bill (Ruby) Stock, plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda Clark and her husband Sid, his mother-in-law Bernice (Johnson) Stock, his grandparents and his niece, Laura Satchell.
Cremation has taken place with no services planned at this time. A celebration of Doug’s life will be announced at a later date.
Memorials can be sent to Casa de la Luz Hospice, 5830 N. Fountains Ave., Bldg. #2, Tucson, AZ 85704.
