Dan Lee Berggren - November 25, 2008

Dan Lee Berggren passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at his home on Nov. 25, 2008. He was born Feb. 18, 1936 in Holdrege, Neb. to Kenneth and Merna Kailey Berggren, the fourth of five children.
Dan accepted Christ as his Savior at Polk Bible Camp, Polk, Neb. when he was nine years old.
Dan graduated from Axtell High School, Axtell, Neb. in 1954.
After graduation Dan joined the army and served with the Mechanical division in Fort Lee, Va. for two years.
On June 20, 1959 Dan married Carolyn Jacobsen. To this union three children were born. Dan and Carolyn lived in several different towns in Nebraska and Colorado. Carolyn went to be with her Lord in October 1982, after a short bout with cancer. At that time the family lived in Burlington, Colo.
On May 17, 1986 Dan married Frances Weiss Harmon at Herndon Covenant Church, Herndon, Kan. The family grew by four, with the addition of Frances’ children. In 1989 Dan and Frances moved to Akron, Colo. where they joined the First Baptist Church.
Dan had many occupations during his life. He was a Co-op manager for many years and worked for Kay Jan, Inc. His favorite job was working the “farm” with the CSU Experiment Station in Akron.
Dan and Frances enjoyed fishing trips to the Colorado mountains and attending their grandchild­ren’s events. Dan enjoyed golfing and singing in the Centennial State Chorus. He was a behind the scenes handyman, helping out wherever he saw a need. Dan never passed up a chance to drive combine for his son or daughter when they needed extra harvest help.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Berggren; son, Bryan Berggren, and wife, Dorcas, of Towner, Colo.; daughter, Brenda Bender, and husband, Ken, of Kalona, Iowa; daughter, Amy Schmidt, and husband, Kelvin, of Towner, Colo.; step-son, Dennis Harmon of Longview, Texas; step-son, Rick Harmon, and wife, Jo, of Warland, Wyo.; step-son, Randy Harmon, and wife, Brenda, of Imperial, Neb.; step-daughter, Carol Horinek of Colby, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary Berggren and wife, Dorothy, Allan Berggren and wife, Kay; mother-in-law, Lucile Weiss; brothers-in-law, Wayne Weiss and wife, Bonnie, Connie Gardner, Gordon Weiss and wife, JoAnn; sisters-in-law, Joan Rhodes, Judy Hoyt and husband, Gordon, Peggy Mamalakis; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Merna Berggren; his wife, Carolyn Berggren; an infant sister, Phyllis Berggren; sister, Nita (Gustafson) Urbom; father-in-law, Harvey Weiss; in-laws, Otto and Norma Jacobsen.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be dearly missed.
Services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at First Baptist Church, Akron, Colo. with Pastor Christopher Whitney officiating.
Interment was conducted at Fairview Cemetery, Burlington, Colo.
