Seth David Ragan was born to Clement and Lucile (Adams) Ragan on March 8, 1928, at their farm home northwest of Stratton, Neb. Seth was followed by a sister, Patricia Ann, in 1929, and by their twin brothers, Clement and Kenneth, in 1930.
Seth graduated from Stratton High School in 1946.
After attending the University of Nebraska for a year, Seth enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948.
He married his long-time sweetheart Vonna Hardy on May 23, 1948 and they spent the next 20 years adding to their family and living in a wide variety of locations across the United States. Their only long-term separation was during his year of Korean War service.
Seth and Vonna returned to their southwest Nebraska farming roots after his 20-year retirement from the Air Force.
Seth and Vonna lived the last 30 years of their married life on the Ragan family homestead on which he was born and raised.
During this time, Seth served as the Commander of the VFW 9155 and Wm. Egle 281 American Legion Post, continuing to serve members of the United States military.
Even after his retirement from active farming, they continued to live in the house in which he was born and raised, where he could look out at the Nebraska changing seasons and farm and pasture landscape. Their farm home north of Stratton became home base for their growing brood, serving as a training ground for budding mechanics, farmers, cooks and seamstresses. Grandchildren looked forward to summer visits to help with the harvest and winter visits to celebrate Christmas.
