Betty Erdman - February 28, 2013
Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Bauer Erdman passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 20, 2013. She was born May 23, 1927, to Jacob and Inez Abigail (Styer) Bauer.
She graduated from Benkelman High School in 1944. After attending Greeley Junior College, she returned to Benkelman to work as a stenographer for Dan Owens, attorney at law.
She was united in marriage to Paul Martin Erdman on June 20, 1947. To this union, four daughters were born. Except for eight years living on a ranch in northern Dundy County, Betty lived her entire life in Benkelman.
Betty loved music and taught piano lessons in Benkelman for over 50 years. It was her greatest joy to see her students flourish and enjoy playing the piano all through their lives.
She was a 69 year member of the United Methodist Church and began playing the piano for Sunday evening services at the age of 16. As an adult, she served as choir director and pianist for over 60 years. She provided music for countless events in the community.
In the community, Betty was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Extension Club and Garden Club. Betty was also a 4-H leader. She and Paul enjoyed friendships and performances associated with Country Music Benkelman most of their married life. Betty played the mandolin.
Betty operated a music store in Benkelman for over 40 years. She also enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She loved flowers and was an avid rose gardener.
Her life with Paul was rich with the joy of friends, four daughters, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Inez Bauer; step-mother, Mary Hines Bauer; brother, Dale; sister-in-law, Gwen Bauer; and infant brother, Ralph.
She leaves to rejoice in her salvation her husband of 65 years, Paul; four daughters and their families: Beth and Rich Kollmorgen; Andrea, Randall, Randy, Michael, Justin, Killian Terry; Steve, LeeAnn, Nathan, Dylan and Jocelyn Kollmorgen; Brian and Megan Kollmorgen; Christine, Michael and Jon Collier; Julia, Luke, Reuben, Cali, and Daisy Kinney; Katherine, Jonathon and Paige Lamarque; Annie, Chris and Adrianne Pursley; Caleb, Michelle and Dietrich Pursley; Andrew, Meghann and Ashlynn Pursley; Julie, Jerry, Leah, Joanna, Jacob Ott; Aaron and Sarah Ott; sister, Virginia and brother-in-law, Jim Norsworthy.
Memorial services will be held Friday morning, March 1, 2013, 11 a.m. (MT) at the United Methodist Church of Benkelman, with Pastor Shelia Taylor officiating.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later Date.
No visitation, cremation was chosen.
A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Community Health Care and Hospice of McCook, Neb.
