Dean E. McCoy - February 07, 2013
Dean Erwin McCoy, age 81, of Arapahoe, Neb., died on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Neb. He was born on Feb. 6, 1931 to Stanley Pine and Ethel May (Holloway) McCoy at the family farm south of Holbrook, Neb.
He began his grade school days at District #36 south of Holbrook. The family moved to Oregon in 1940 and returned to live in Arapahoe when Dean was in the 8th grade. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1948.
After graduation Dean farmed with his father, Stanley and older brother, Leland.
He was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict.
Dean married Fern Monasmith on Aug. 17, 1958 at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Neb.
In 1958 he was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe. They were blessed with four children: Marla Ann, Robin Kim, Sue Ellen and Timothy Dean. They all grew up on the family farm south of Arapahoe where he enjoyed the busy farm life.
Dean was active in his church, American Legion Post #96, 4-H leader of the Busy Bees Club and Boy Scout leader. They moved to Arapahoe in 1998. His greatest joy was visiting with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leland McCoy; grandsons, Hayden Dean McCoy and Richard Jay Lambert.
He is survived by his wife, Fern McCoy, of Arapahoe, Neb.; daughters, Marla and husband, Jim Prusa of Howells, Neb., Sue and husband, Harley Dean Lambert of Arapahoe, Neb.; sons, Robin and wife, Maricar McCoy of Murrieta, Calif., Tim and wife, Diane McCoy of Hickman, Neb.; grandchildren, Danielle and Brian Prusa; Ellisa, Trevor, Colton and Jenna McCoy; Ashleigh Golgart and Cameron Lambert; Kathyrine (John) Kegley; great grandchild, Jaxon Golgart; sisters-in-law, Donna McCoy and Joan (Boyd) Mathews; brothers-in-law, John Monasmith and Don and wife, Amy Monasmith; special niece, Ronna and husband, Joe Kutlas; nephew, Allan and wife, Sally McCoy and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, Neb. on Jan. 29, 2013, with Pastor James Moshier officiating.
Organist was Ruth Haarberg and soloist was Steve Henry.
Pallbearers were Merle Adams, Tom Leising, Tod Mathews, Terry Haussler, Ervin Huxoll, Wayne Lammel and Larry tenBensel.
Interment was at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.
Military rites were by American Legion Post #96 of Arapahoe.
Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe was in charge of arrangements.
