Millie Benson - December 27, 2012
Millie O. Benson died on her birthday, Dec. 21, 2012, at the Imperial Manor at the age of 96.
She was a lifelong resident of Dundy and Chase Counties.
She was born at her Aunt Sylvia’s home in Arapahoe, Neb. to Frank and Nettie Adamson.
She attended rural school until the eighth grade, then went to Max to High School. She was baptized into the Church of Christ.
She was united in marriage to Hartsel Benson on Jan. 6, 1935, in Wauneta. To this union was born three daughters, Norma Jean, Carol and Sharon. They settled in Dundy County where they rented a farm for five years, before purchasing a farm in northeast Chase County in the Blanche Community.
They built a home and moved to Imperial in 1951, but continued farming until 1971. They moved to Imperial so their three girls could go to school in town. Millie was a stay at home Mom and took wonderful care of her family.
She loved to play cards. After they got the girls raised, she and Hartsel did a lot of traveling with several wonderful couples.
After Hartsel passed away in 1997, she sold her home and moved to Imperial Heights. She was there the rest of her life at the various stages of the Heights and Manor.
Millie is survived by two daughters, Carol (Claude) Arnold of Ogallala, Neb., Shary (Marv) Draper of Sterling, Colo. and son-in-law Leonard Hadachek; grandchildren, Mitch Miller, Tim and Cheryl Arnold, Chris and Mark Laverty, Denny and Debbie Draper, Tad and Raquel Draper, Kelsey Draper and Cody Draper; great grandchildren, Ashley Celis-Terrazas, Krystal Tigar, Rachel Gerlach, Alisha and Tyler Arnold, Briana and Morgan Laverty, Ashton Draper and Courtney and Riley Draper; great, great grandchildren, Hannah Jonah Celis-Terrazas, Jaxon and Sophie Tigar and several nieces and nephews.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Hartsel in 1997; one daughter, Norma Jean Hadachek in 2009; one grandson, Kirk Miller in 1988; her parents; one sister and one brother.
Services were held in Imperial Dec. 27, 2012, at the United Methodist Church with Lay Minister Melody Newman officiating.
Organist was Mr. Don Newman.
Casketbearers were Denny Draper, Tim Arnold, Chris Laverty, Mitch Miller, Tad Draper, Kelsey Draper and Cody Draper.
Interment was at the Mount Hope Cemetery with Liewer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are being accepted in her name at the Imperial Manor and the United Methodist Church.
