Bertha Shackelford - December 13, 2012


Bertha Shackelford, 86, of North Platte and formerly of Ogallala, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 in Linden Court of North Platte.
Bertha was born Jan. 1, 1926 in Imperial, Neb., the daughter of W.J. and Adeline (Terwilliger) Stoutimore.
She graduated from Chase County High School in 1943.
On Sept. 14, 1947, Bertha was united in marriage to Gilbert Shackelford in the Imperial Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Wauneta for several years. They then moved to Sutherland and were both employed in the family grocery store.
In 1958 the couple moved to Ogallala. Bertha worked in the office of the Keith County Assessor for 25 years, retiring in 1987. She moved to North Platte in 2002 to be close to her daughter.
Her hobbies included reading, baking, traveling and attending plays and concerts. She especially liked going to craft fairs and garage sales.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Gilbert, in 1999.
Survivors include her daughter, Gayla, and husband, Bill Ward, and one grandson, John Thomas Ginapp, and his wife, Misty, all of North Platte; brother-in-law, Clifford Shackelford and his wife, Margie, of Wauneta.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. in the Ogallala First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating.
Memorials have been established to the Methodist Churches of Ogallala and Imperial.

Interment was at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala was in charge of arrangements.
