Orin Borchers - November 15, 2012

A Celebration of Life Service for Orin L. Borchers will be conducted from the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Neb. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Kenton Birtell, officiating.
Inurnment will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at 4 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Lincoln, Neb. near Emerald, Neb. with military honors provided by the Pleasant Dale American Legion Post # 354 in conjunction with the United States Marine Corps Military Honors Team.
Orin Landis Borchers, 58 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012 at his home in Holdrege following a brief battle with cancer.
Orin was born Sept. 21, 1954 at Lincoln, Neb., the youngest of four children born to Landis and Ruth (Suellwold) Borchers.
Orin received his education from Milford Public Schools, graduating from Milford High School with the class of 1972.
He then pursued higher education at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Neb., where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Upon graduation, Orin was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country in the Marine Corps from May 16, 1976 until his honorable discharge on Dec. 15, 1978 as a Captain of Artillery in the 11th Marines, and thereafter in the Marine Corps Reserve until 1980.
On May 22, 1976 he was united in marriage to Debbie Michael at Albion, Neb. and to this union two children were born: a son, Matthew David and a daughter, Stacy Jo.
While serving in the military the family made their home in Quantico, Va., Lawton, Okla., and Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Following his discharge, he joined the family farm at Enders, Neb.
In 1992 the family moved to Holdrege, where he continued to be involved in the service of agriculture until his passing.
Orin was a member of the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66, where he currently served as Commander. He was Area D Vice-Commander and State Sergeant-At-Arms of the American Legion Department of Nebraska. Orin also served on the Phelps County Veterans Service Committee.
Orin always put everyone else first in his life, before the needs of himself. His priorities were his family and friends and service to his country. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and was an expert marksman.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth in 2000; sister, Ione in infancy; brother-in-law, Marvin Molzer; and father-in-law, Richard Michael.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Holdrege; son, Matt Borchers of Wauneta, Neb.; daughter, Stacy McMinamen and her husband, Joe of Onawa, Iowa; his father, Landis Borchers of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren: Sydnee, Casey, Nathan and Jaci McMinamen; two sisters: Neva Molzer of Imperial, Neb. and Joan Brethouwer and her husband, Bill of Crete, Neb.; mother-in-law, Barbara Michael of Albion; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 from 1 to 8 p.m. with the family greeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
