Ellis Gibbs - November 08, 2012
Ellis Gibbs was born on Jan. 20, 1945 at North Platte, Neb. He was the second of five children born to Charles and Vivian Wood Gibbs. Ellis grew up in North Platte, Neb. where he attended school.
Ellis was married to Sharon Beck on March 20, 1966 in North Platte. They moved to Evergreen, Colo. where Ellis worked for a service station until 1979 when they moved back to Elsie, Neb. Ellis worked for Perkins County roads department for a period of time.
When Ellis was 45 years old, he earned his G.E.D., became an EMT, and became an over-the-road truck driver. When he was 50 years old he suffered a stroke to his spinal column and had to spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair.
His health began to fail in March of this year and he spent time in a number of health facilities. He had been moved to the North Platte Care Centre where he died early Sunday morning, Nov. 4, 2012. He had reached the age of 67.
Ellis had been a member of the Grainton Village Church in Grainton, Neb. before it closed last year.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Casie, who died in October; and his son-in-law, Greg Gerdes.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter, Crystal Atmore of Kearney, Neb.; three sons, Curtis and wife, Heather Francis, of Imperial, Neb., Clark and wife, Cathy, of Clay Center, Neb. and Collin Ellis and David Kramer of Omaha; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Barbara Gibbs, Sharon Martens, Lois and husband, Kenny Grasz, all of North Platte and Joyce and husband, Clyde Curtis, of Pawnee City, Neb.; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Nov. 7, 2012, at the Grainton Village Church with Chip Maupin officiating.
Burial was in the Elsie Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
