Emma Belau - October 18, 2012


Emma L. “Laurine” Belau, 91 of Aurora, Colo. passed away Oct. 3, 2012 at Porter Hospice in Centennial, Colo. after a short illness.
Laurine was born at Lincoln­ville, Kan. on June 11, 1921 to Henry and Mary Ohmie.
She attended school in Enders, Neb. and began working for families in the area at age 16.
She was confirmed and was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Neb.
Laurine and Paul L. Belau were married in Enders, Neb. on Jan. 26, 1941. They operated a grocery store and farmed in the community.
They moved to Fort Morgan, Colo. in 1956 where Paul worked in construction and Laurine continued to raise the family.
When Paul retired, they returned to Imperial. Laurine moved to Aurora, Colo. several years ago to be closer to her children. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.
Preceding her in death were husband, Paul; son, Douglas; two brothers and five sisters, Walter Ohmie, Harold Ohmie, Edna Norman, Clara Jaeger, Selma Gardner, Caroline Furlong and Eleanor Carr; nephews, Dean Gardner, Keith Belau, Don Gardner and nieces, Wanda Winnepenninkx and Carol Cunningham.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Belau (wife Linda) and one daughter, Paula Todd (husband Dave); three granddaughters: Michelle Andree, Laurel Whitaker (husband Rich) and Nicole Miller (husband Greg); six great grandchildren: Ashton Andree, Emma Whitaker, Annalise Whitaker, Josiah Miller, Mary Miller and Rebekah Miller; nephews, Jim Jaeger, Larry Ohmie, Mike Carr and Matt Carr; nieces, Patty Houghton, Colleen Lynch, Nancy Gardner, Pam Gittlein, Kathy Lynch and Marla Boles.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Nov. 10, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, Neb.
Private interment of her ashes will occur at Mount Hope Cemetery, in Imperial.
