Geraldine (Jerry) Leyland - July 19, 2012
Geraldine (Jerry) Helen Gerber Leyland was born May 15, 1920, at Idalia, Colo., to William Fredrick and Jennie Agnes Anderson.
As a young girl she attended school in Idalia, graduating from Idalia High School. Jerry as she was known continued her education at the Grand Island Business College.
Jerry was employed at the Pentagon during WWII and later married Percy Nares Leyland on Aug. 17, 1945, in Midland Park, N. J., where they first settled. The couple moved to Avondale Estates, Ga., where Jerry was employed as a secretary at the Dekalb County Schools for many years.
Jerry continued to live in Georgia after Percy’s death until 1990 when she moved to Imperial, to be near son, Jeff, and family.
Jerry was a member of the Avondale Garden Club while living in Georgia, and a member of the Imperial Lions Club here in Imperial. She loved gardening and traveling.
Jerry passed away Thursday afternoon, July 12, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Neb. She was 92 years of age.
Survivors include son Jeff Leyland and wife, Jo, of Imperial, Neb.; granddaughters: Chelsea and Shelby Leyland of Seattle, Wash.; sister Marie Weyerman of Idalia, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, husband Percy, son David and brothers Fritz and Hugh Gerber.
A memorial reception will be held Thursday afternoon, July 26, 2012, 3:00 P.M. at the Imperial Community Center, Imperial, Neb.

A memorial has been established to the Imperial Community Center.
