Floyd Wilcox - July 12, 2012


Floyd Wilcox was born Oct. 21, 1916, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Fred and Clara (Samuel) Wilcox.
As a young man he graduated from Raceland, Kentucky High School, and served in WWII as a US Navy Seabee.
After his discharge in 1945, he married Edra Mae Hoff and they made their home in Wauneta, Neb.
The couple welcomed an adopted son, Rick, to the family and Floyd joined the Nelson Burham Construction Company, where he worked for many years. He later worked as an independent contractor, handyman and an employee for the Village of Wauneta.
Floyd remarried on Nov. 14, 1959, to Dorothy Ruth Mayden, in Kearney, Neb. The couple welcomed two more children into their life, Ruth and Rodger.
They made their home in Wauneta and Floyd enjoyed woodworking, playing bingo and shooting pool. He also loved dancing and singing. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Posts of Wauneta.
Dorothy passed away in 1988, and Floyd moved in 2001, to the Regent Park Nursing Home, Holyoke, Colo., where he had made his home until present.
Floyd passed away Friday night, June 29, 2012, at the Melissa Memorial Hospital, Holyoke, Colo. Floyd was 95 years of age.
Survivors include son, Richard (Rick) Wilcox of Dannebrog, Neb.; daughter, Ruth Alvord and husband, Robert, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son, Rodger Mayden and wife, Gayla, of Holyoke, Colo.; six grandchildren, Michelle Jestice and husband, Scott, of Monument, Colo., Trebor Alvord of Colorado Springs, Colo., Misty Enterline of Holyoke, Colo., Schad Mayden and wife, Melissa, of Holyoke, Colo., Kelly and Brandon Wilcox, of McCook, Neb.; 11 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ray LaMoglia of San Tee, Calif.; niece, Candy Lynch and husband, Randy, and their two children and grandchildren of Kentucky.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Eddie and Dorothy; brothers, Sam and Ralph; sisters, Dorothea and Wanda.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2 p.m. at the Gerk Funeral Home in Holyoke, Colo.
Graveside inurnment services will be held Thursday morning, July 19, 10 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Neb. with Rick Heldenbrand officiating.
A memorial has been established in Floyd’s memory.
No visitation, Floyd chose cremation.
