James Skomp - July 12, 2012

James Hamilton Skomp was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Green County, Ind. He was the son of Joseph B. and Faye E. Skomp.
Jim was united in marriage to Vera Mears on July 22, 1961 in Green County, Ind.
Jim’s involvement with the fertilizer business kept the family on the move and eventually brought them to Grant, Neb.
Jim and Vera were members of the Church of Christ in Ogallala, Neb. and Jim was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Grant, Neb.; he had served his country in the Korean War from 1952-1954.
Jim Skomp passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial, Neb. He was 81 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Jean; and parents, Joe and Faye Skomp.
He is survived by daughter, Sally Scherer and husband, Dan of St. Charles, Mo.; son, Matt Skomp of Imperial; two grandsons, Chance Skomp and wife, Jessica, and Colton Skomp, all of Lamar, Neb.; great-grandson, Canton Skomp; brothers, John Skomp and wife, Ann, and JoeWayne Skomp and wife, Irene, both from Indiana; and sisters, Ruth Skomp and Janet Nybakke and husband, John, both from Oregon.
Graveside services for Jim Skomp were held Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012, 10 a.m. at the Grant Cemetery, Grant, Neb. with Bob Brueggeman and Jim Howard officiating.
Casketbearers were Pete Dillan, Ed Lee, David Brown, Cedric McDaniel, Chance Skomp and Colton Skomp.

A memorial has been established to the West View Retirement Center, Grant, Neb.
Liewer and Bullock-Long Funeral Homes were in charge of arrangements.
