Elwin Morse - March 19, 2009

Elwin Leighton Morse was born October 12, 1927 to William Leighton and Elsie Ellen (Smith) Morse in Chase County, Nebraska. Elwin grew up in Chase County and attended Chase Grade School.
Elwin served in the US Army from May 6, 1946 to June 7, 1947, when he was honorably discharged. At that time Elwin returned home to Chase County to farm.
On December 27, 1949, Elwin married Gerietta Lee Harmon at the Berean Church in Imperial. Together they had five children: Janet, Gary, Arlyn, Delbert and Shirley. The couple first settled on a farm eight miles south of Lamar and then later moved to a farm 15 miles west of Imperial.
Elwin was a member of the NRA, VFW and Eagles. Elwin enjoyed woodworking, shooting, tinkering/inventing, reading and he was a recycler long before it was “cool”. Elwin never threw things away; he could always find uses for the things he kept.
Elwin passed away March 12, 2009, at the Chase County Community Hospital. He was 81 years of age.
Elwin was preceded in death by his parents, son Arlyn and one great-grandson.
Survivors include wife, Gerietta of rural Imperial; daughter, Janet Lee Graham and husband, Jim, of Lakewood, Colo; son, Gary and wife, Kenya, of Craig, Colo.; son, Delbert of Norfolk, Neb.; daughter, Shirley Morse of Lake View, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Sarah Morse of Imperial; daughter-in-law, Shelley Morse of Grand Island, Neb.; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Lytle of Hamlet, Neb.; sister, Marjorie Wheeler and husband, Wesley, of Wauneta, Neb.; brother, Dale Morse of Ft. Collins, Colo; brother, Lee Morse and wife, Myrth, of North Platte, Neb.
Funeral services for Elwin Morse were held Monday, March 16, 2:00 p.m. at the Imperial Bible Church with Martin Harmon, Robert Harmon and Pastor Allen Prodoehl officiating. Interment followed at Green Lawn Cemetery, rural Lamar.
Casketbearers were Case Morse, Matthew Morse, Jeremy Barber, Billie Selby, Christopher Robinson and Willy Morse.
Honorary casketbearers were Greg Wallin, Jeff Wallin, Destry Wallin, Steve Wallin and Shawna Rusher.
Military rites were by American Legion and VFW Posts, Imperial.
Organist was Linda Varilek. Kim Silvester sang and played guitar. Family singers were Heather Curfman, Cory Jewel, Sayward Klinginsmith, Toki Shelby, Elizabeth Morse and Sarlyn Morse.
A memorial has been established to the Imperial Public Library.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
