Kelly Jolee Nekola, 30, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011.
Kelly was born Feb. 14, 1981, to George and Ruby (Bartels) Nekola in Lincoln, Neb. She was baptized on April 5, 1981, and confirmed on April 30, 1995 at Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
Kelly graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1999 and graduated from Arizona State University, Tempe, Ariz., in 2003 with a degree in Kinesiology. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pa., in 2006. She worked as a vascular operating room nurse at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz. She most recently worked as a traveling operating room nurse.
She was united in marriage to Ryan Clauson, Omaha, on July 17, 2010. They were divorced in 2011.
Kelly is survived by her parents, George and Ruby Nekola, of Lincoln; brother Jeffrey Nekola and wife Leslie, nephews Connor and Tayten Nekola and niece Evyn Nekola of Shawnee, Kan. Also surviving are aunts Gayle Sell of Lincoln and Cherine (Kevin) Parde of The Colony, Texas; uncle Darwin (Brenda) Bartels of Urbandale Iowa; cousins: Jonalyn Bartels and Tyler Bartels of Des Moines, Iowa; Cassie Sell of Lincoln; Kaili Parde Justin Parde, Hunter Parde and Anthony Parde of The Colony, Texas; a large extended family and many friends.
?She was preceded in death by an infant sister, grandparents Reuben and Wilma Bartels of Enders, Neb., and Hylton and Marie Nekola of Grand Island, Neb.
?A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln, Neb., with Pastor Brad Beckman officiating.
Music included the hymns, “Nearer My God, to Thee” and “How Great Thou Art” by Zach Stroup on the mandolin and the congregational hymns, “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “Amazing Grace.” Laurie Lewis was pianist.
A private inurnment was held at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln.
Memorials may be made in care of the family for future designation.
