Jeanne L. Cahill, 89 of St. Edward, Neb. passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at the Imperial Manor in Imperial, Neb.
Jeanne Lucy Cahill, daughter of Archibald Crawford and Lucy Frances Ada (Kent) McLees, was born April 11, 1922 at Crossfield, Alberta, Canada. She lived there until May 24, 1929, when she moved with her family to Castor.
In September of 1936 they moved to Rimbey until 1942 where she attended high school.
Jeanne then moved to Calgary where she attended Garbutt Business College for one year and also worked in the Bank of Montreal.
Jeanne was united in marriage to Leo James Cahill on Sept. 10, 1947 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They moved to the Cahill family farm south of St. Edward (in Nance County) in September 1949 and farmed there until May 1986 when they moved into St. Edward.
Jeanne was baptized and confirmed at the St. Edward Catholic Church where she has been a member since 1947. She was a member and past president of the St. Edward Catholic Altar Society and a First Vice President, 25 year membership chair and Chaplain of the American Legion Auxiliary. She has held other various offices in both organizations.
In June of 2008 Jeanne moved to Imperial. She entered the Imperial Manor in December of 2008 and it was there where she passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 20th, 2011.
Surviving Jeanne are her four children: Tim Cahill of St. Edward, Neb., Margaret Dill of Imperial, Neb., Mary Jeanne Cahill of Long Beach, Calif., Sheila Cahill of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Alf) Nathan of Wales; Alycia Carlston of Lincoln; Jesse Dill and Michelle (Taylor) May of Imperial, Neb.; Cody Cahill and Cassie Meyer of Deshler, Neb.; Cammie Cahill and Travis Freitag of Carleton, Neb.; Molly Cahill of Long Beach, Calif.; five great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Kolt and Tatem of Imperial, Neb.; Lucie of Lincoln, Neb.; and Kypton of Carleton, Neb.; honorary granddaughter, Andrea Loudhawk; goddaughter, Joan Steinmann of Salt Lake City, Utah; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; two sons, Michael and Kent; one daughter, Teresa Carlston; son-in-law, Tom Dill; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Mollie Cahill; two sisters, Marie “Mollie” Jeynes and Margaret McKinnon.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, Neb. with Fr. James Novotny and Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating.
Burial was in the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery.
Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward, Neb. was in charge of arrangements.
