Gloria J. Earl died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Heritage of Bel-Air in Norfolk.
Gloria J. (Power) Earl, daughter of Fredrick W. and Isabel M. (Gurney) Power was born Aug. 10, 1930 at Winner, S.D.
She graduated from Norfolk Public High School and attended Junior College at Norfolk, Neb.
In September 1956, she married Keith Zack Earl at First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Three children were born to them: David, Diane and Christine.
She lived on a ranch near Imperial, Neb. In 1961, she moved to Norfolk following her husband’s death.
She taught at Stanton Public School and then worked as a telephone operator in Denver, Colo. While teaching at Grant Elementary for 18 years she earned her Master’s Degree in Education at Wayne State College. She was a resource teacher for Norfolk Public School for 13 years working with learning disabled children.
After retirement, she was active in Wesly Group, member of First United Methodist Church and numerous other groups.
She is survived by her three children, David Earl of Yankton, S.D., Diane and husband, John Carney, of Norfolk, Neb., Christine and husband, Walter Bleich, of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the First United Metho­dist Church in Norfolk, or the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, Madison County.
Funeral services for Gloria J. Earl, age 80 of Norfolk, were held Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Rev. Earl Reed officiated with burial in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk.
Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk was in charge of arrangements.
