Don Hink - February 26, 2009
Donald Burton Hink was born on Aug. 7, 1927 to Edward A. and Pearl E. (Lindsey) Hink, on his grandfather’s homestead in Dundy County, Neb.
As a young man he attended the Crete Grade School and Chase County High School before entering the U.S. Army in February of 1946. Don was discharged in 1947, and returned to southwest Nebraska, where he began a life long career working at the local lumber yard. Don was a main stay as the lumber yard changed hands, from Krotters, Chaco and the present Adams Lumber.
Don married Henrietta Anna Marie Brandt, on Aug. 17, 1958, in Hot Springs, S.D. and the couple made their home in Imperial, Neb., where they have resided until present.
Don not only worked at the lumber yard, but farmed most of his life, as well as working for the Nebraska Game and Parks Department from 1992 through 2004.
Don passed away Monday morning, Feb. 23, 2009, at the Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Neb. He was 81 years of age.
He had many hobbies including fishing, hunting elk, deer, pheasants and ducks. Don enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and sharpening saws and scissors. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion Post of Imperial.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leo and Ernest, brother-in-law Clifford Day and one great nephew Nathan Ferguson.
Survivors include: wife, Henrietta of Benkelman; sister, Darlene Day of Yuma, Colo.; sister-in-law, Della Ruth Hink of Thornton, Colo.; sister-in-law, Elaine Hink of Imperial, Neb.; nieces and nephews, Marlyn (Wayne) Ferguson of Parks, Neb., Donald Day of Flagstaff, Ariz., Bryce (Lynetta) Day of Yuma, Colo., Charlotte (Darwin) Pardoe of Yuma, Colo., Charlene (Charles) Huwa of Yuma, Colo., Arlyn Day of Oklahoma, Charles (Kumshaw) Hink of Korea, Randy Hink of Arvada, Colo., Lisa Fuehrer of North Glenn, Colo., Devon (Russ) DaMoude of Imperial, Neb., Sheri Hink of Lincoln, Neb.; numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Don Hink will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial, with Pastor David Kahle officiating.
Interment will follow at the Crete Cemetery, Champion, Neb.
Visitation was held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2009, 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established to the Champion Community Center or the Zion Lutheran Church library.
