Anna Iona Peterson - June 16, 2011
Iona Peterson, a long time resident of Imperial, passed away Sunday morning, June 12, 2011, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial. She was 90 years of age.
Iona was born on Oct. 3, 1920, in Champion, Neb., to Hansie and Lillie (Fulk) Johnson, the second of four children. She was a life long resident of Chase County, graduating from Chase County High School in 1939.
She was married to Ward Peterson on Aug. 19, 1940. They lived in Imperial where they raised four children. An avid gardener and seamstress, Iona opened Iona’s Fabric Villa in Imperial after the death of her husband and ran the store for a number of years before selling it and retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ward Peterson, daughter Charon Dutton, brother Irvin Johnson, and sister Theda Bopp.
She is survived by her sons, Tom (Patricia) Peterson of Colby, Kan.; Stan (Beth) Peterson of Lincoln, Neb.; and Chuck (Meta) Peterson of Linkoping, Sweden; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; her sister, Eileen Phinney of Lincoln, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Iona Peterson were held Wednesday morning, June 15, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial with Pastor David Kahle officiating.
Organist was Mrs. Jean Farrer.
Casketbearers were Terry Peterson, RJ Peterson, Bradley Peterson, Sid Peterson, Russ Peterson and Eric Peterson.
Honorary casketbearers were Iona’s 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Internment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Imperial Manor Nursing Home or Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial.
