Tena A. Huls - May 26, 2011
Tena A. Huls, 86, of Beatrice died at the Beatrice Manor on Friday morning, May 20, 2011.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1924 at Imperial, grew up in rural Imperial and was confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church.
She attended country school and graduated from Imperial High School in 1943.
She was married to Harm J. Huls on Oct. 13, 1943 at Marysville, Kan.
She was employed at the Mennonite Hospital, Kees Manufacturing, Dempsters, Swift and Company and Formfit all in Beatrice.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Harm, of Beatrice; three daughters, Connie Otto of Pickrell and Diana Smith and husband, Jim, and Marcia Vontz and Rick, all of Beatrice; five grandchildren, Eric Otto, Gina Otto, Jeremy Vontz, Ryan J. Smith and wife, Brianna, and Nicholas Vontz; one great-granddaughter, Madalynn Smith; several step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; one sister, Emma McAlister of Beatrice; one brother, Bill Johnson of Imperial; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert O. and Talka “Tillie” Forden Johnson; one son-in-law, Marvin Otto; two brothers, Ed Johnson and Frank Johnson; five sisters, Annie Schilke, Minnie Zech, Winnie Edwards, Grace Cahow and Mary Johnson.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor William Jurgens officiating.
Burial was in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.
A family prayer service was held at 10:15 a.m. on Monday in the church chapel.
A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Norma Saathoff and Bonnie Saathoff in charge.
