Ronald Meininger - May 20, 2010

Ronald Eugene Meininger, 77, passed away at Bryan LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb. on Thursday, May 13, 2010.
The son of Pauline (Eckhardt) Meininger and Frederick Meininger was born on May 18, 1932 and baptized on Oct. 7 in Culbertson, Neb. He had two older sisters Ruth and Betty and a twin brother, Don.
He attended grade school in Culbertson, graduated from Holdrege High School in Holdrege, Neb. in 1949 and later worked for McDonald’s Clothiers.
Ron enlisted in the Navy and served honorably on the U.S.S. Essex during the Korean War from 1951-1955. After his service he returned to work for McDonald’s Clothiers in Holdrege and later in Sidney, Neb., where he married his first wife, Jeannette. They moved to Imperial, Neb. and were divorced in 1971.
Ron married Laurine Anna Goddard (Wagner) in 1972 and they made their home with Laurine’s three sons at 1525 Wellington Street. He was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in 1973.
In Imperial, Ron worked for Service Insurance Agency, Powell Motors and Farmers and Merchants Bank. He served on the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He retired from Farmers and Merchants Bank in 1997.
Ron and Laurine moved to Lincoln, Neb. in 1999 where they continued to serve as bookkeepers for several businesses.
Ron is remembered as a quiet, friendly, peaceful man. He maintained beautiful gardens and took pride in growing his own herbs.
In his later years, Ron enjoyed art in many forms, especially black and white photography and his own creations with pressed and dried flowers. He worked as a volunteer for the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia and also took great interest in the history and architecture of churches and old buildings.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruth Short and Betty Smith and twin brother Don Meininger.
He is survived by his wife, Laurine, and step-sons, Bart­ley Goddard (wife Susan, children Zachariah and Elizabeth), Jeffry Goddard (wife Joan, children Emily, Maggie, and Samuel) and Philip Goddard (wife Shannon Harner, children Emma and Zan), and beloved in-laws Virginia Meininger, Don and Dorothy Hayes, Evelyn Reed, Dorothy Wagner, Arthur and Eleanor Wagner, Agnes and William McCurry, Norma Hopkins and Jack and Betty Todd.
Graveside Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010, at Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln.
A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lincoln with Pastor Mark Ebert officiating.
