Ralph Statz - October 08, 2009


?Ralph Edward Statz was born Dec. 17, 1943 in Imperial, Neb., the fifth of 10 children born to Frederick Wilhelm “Fritz” and Dorothy Irene (Knight) Statz of Champion, Neb. He died in Holyoke, Colo. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the age of 65.
A Life Scout, Ralph attended Bussell-Mill District 8 and Crete District #25 through the eighth grade, having his sister, Ruth, as his teacher the last two years, then graduated from Chase County High School in 1962.
He attended Barnes Business College in Denver, Colo. living with his Uncle Delbert and Aunt Dorothy Knight in Aurora, Colo. Ralph was the bookkeeper for Farmers Lumber Company in Imperial for two years.
Ralph and Linda Bahler were married June 5, 1965, at the Lamar, Neb. Christian Church parsonage. Their first home was a basement house near Champion, without indoor plumbing that had been empty for many years. Their son Ralph Edward, Jr. “Chip” was born March 8, 1966.
In September of 1966, the Statz family moved to the “Red Barn” house in Holyoke, Colo. Ralph worked for Hofmeister Lumber Co. The Statzes moved to 534 S. Belford before buying their home at 835 S. Belford. Daughters Robyn Elaine (June 15, 1968) and Ralyn Eileen (June 3, 1971) completed the family.
In 1969, Ralph began managing Hofmeister Lumber Yard in Haxtun, Colo. He worked at Hofmeister Lumber, Cargill Fertilizer, Wendell’s Fertilizer and Hofmeister Building Center until September 2004 when his health deteriorated and forced disability retirement. The Statzes operated the Peerless Theatre for 10 years and were carpenters on weekends.
Ralph served as Assistant Boy Scout Leader, a Holyoke Jaycee, a member of the Haxtun Gun Club and board member of the F&H Golf Course west of Haxtun where he spent many hours playing golf. They square danced for years. Recently his recreation time was spent enjoying playing cards in Haxtun, Holyoke and Imperial.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Linda, of 44 years; son, Chip, of Colorado Springs; daughters, Robyn (Sean) Jamison of Indian Trail, N.C. and Ralyn Ralston of Berthoud, Colo.; grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Alex Jamison, Joshua Ralston and Julia Ralston; brothers, Donald Robert “Bob” (Barbara) Statz of Phoenix, Ariz., James Leon (Jean) Statz of Lebanon, Ky. and Louis Clair “Bud” (Sharon) Statz of Champion, Neb.; sisters, Dorothy Pauline Patterson, Mary Kathleen Hern and Carla Joann Croner of Tucson, Ariz.
Also uncles Donald Knight of Rockville, Md. and Albert (Annie) Bahler and aunt, Ida Skipworth of Holyoke, Colo. and Beulah Soehner of Wray, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Ann Statz of Fremont, Neb. and Sue Dale of Omaha, Neb.; brothers-in- law, Ray (Betty) Bahler and Richard (Ronnie) Bahler; cousins, Clarice Korte and Marian Ferguson of Holyoke, Colo.; special “cousin-in-law” Eldene Hinde; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold Duane Statz (Ann) and William Frederick “Bill” (Sue) Statz; sister, Ruth Marie Statz; aunt, Gertrude (Lawrence) Briggs; and uncles, Delbert (Dorothy) Knight and Max (Vivian) Kunkel. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
There will be no visitation for Ralph.
Memorial service will be Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at Gerk Funeral Home, Holyoke, Colo. with Jim Blake officiating.
Escorts are Pete Spelts, Steve Hofmeister, Chuck Schmidt, Chuck Dunbar, Larry Haynes and Vern Adams.
Services will conclude at the Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be later at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
