Joyce Johnson - August 20, 2009


Joyce Gloria Johnson was born Nov. 17, 1928, at Dovray, Minn. to Peter and Amelia (Lintner) Peterson.
As a young girl she attended rural country school in Minnesota and had spent most of her life in Minnesota, being employed as a nurse’s aide and home senior care giver, before meeting Bill Johnson.
Joyce and Bill were married on Dec. 31, 2001, at Holyoke, Colo. and settled at Bill’s residence near Champion, Neb.
Joyce enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards, puzzles and refinishing furniture. She was also a member of the local Eagles Aerie.
Joyce passed away Saturday night, Aug. 8, 2009, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Neb. She was 80 years of age.
Survivors include husband, Bill of Imperial, Neb.; son, Steven Zinnel and wife, Cindy, of Stillwater, Minn.; daughter, Lorelei Hafey-Francke and husband, Jon, of Ogden, Utah; son, David Zinnel and fiancee Delorous, of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Aaron Zinnel, Miranda Zinnel, Zachary Zinnel, Megan Zinnel, Jennifer Pottratz, Brandy Zinnel, Lacey Nixon, Reva Zinnel, Shawn Hafey-Franke and Shannon Earwood; 11 great grandchildren and sister, Virginia Paige, of Hadley, Minn.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mavis Pope; four brothers, Art, Vernon, Eddy and Jay Peterson; husbands, Elmor Zinnel and Elsworth Pietz.
Funeral services for Joyce were held Friday morning, Aug. 14, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial with Pastor David Kahle officiating.
Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
A memorial has been established to the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
