Engines revving for demolition derby PDF Print E-mail

The Demolition Derby at the Chase County Fair this year will continue to offer a weld division, as well as the no weld and compact divisions. This year the total purse is $6,000.
Chairman Bryan Dannatt noted that the compact division was added about six years ago, while the weld division was added three years ago. This gives more drivers a chance to enter the contest, to be held Aug. 13 at the fairgrounds.
The no weld division purse is $2,500, the weld division is also $2,500, and the compact division purse is $1,000.
In addition, there will be $50 in heat money for those advancing to the finals from their heat, and $50 for the first driver to hit the flag.
Dannatt said the derby usually attracts about 40 cars per year. Entries have been slow coming in this year, he said.
However, there has been “a good deal of interest, from as far east as Grand Island,” he noted.
“I expect an average turnout from the phone calls I’ve received,” he added.
The Imperial Jaycees sponsor the event.
The pre-registration fee is $50 by Aug. 7 or $60 thereafter.
