The Mid-Plains Community College Extended Campus in Imperial is celebrating the move to its new building with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday at 11:30 a.m. The new campus is located at 1324 Broadway, in the former Home Town Pharmacy building.
The public is invited to witness the ribbon cutting. It will be followed by lunch, consisting of hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and soda while available.
Mid-Plains established its Imperial campus in 2003, with Brenda Ledall as campus coordinator. Since that time the course offerings and classes have greatly increased.
The Imperial campus offers adult education classes, community classes both for credit and not for credit, online courses, distance learning classes, GED classes and more.
Some classes are held at the facility, and more are offered through computers.
The Imperial campus moved about the first of June from the former location at 1320 Broadway. The new building contains a multi-purpose room that can be divided into three rooms. That enables it to contain three different classes, such as computers, distance learning and a hands-on classroom, all at the same time.
A Longhorn room, featuring a car hood with a Longhorn logo, will be used for business training and conferences.
There is also a distance learning room for MPCC distance learning and the new Bellevue University Accelerated Bachelor of Science and Business program, to be offered beginning in August.
A prep room for teachers, two bathrooms and Ledall’s office complete the structure.
Ledall has been assisted this summer by Tiffany Regier. Joni Kaiser helps in the office during the school year.
