A People’s Choice Award has been added to the Dance Crew Contest at the Chase County Fair this year. Besides cash prizes based upon judging, the public will be able to weigh in on what it considers the best act.
This is the second year a dance contest has been held at the fair. It has taken the place of the cheerleading contest, held for years on the fairgrounds.
The Dance Crew Contest will be held at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 15 in the open air auditorium. Registration will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
Chairman Vanessa Terryberry said as of Monday she had six entries, and hopes to have at least 10 by fair time. “That would be awesome,” she commented.
Terryberry has sent out about 100 invitations to surrounding schools, dance groups and individuals.
There aren’t many rules, she said. A routine must be no longer than six minutes and shouldn’t contain large acrobatics due to the sun screen over the open air auditorium.
There is no entry fee. A group should bring its own music, but a sound system will be provided.
“We want to see what style of music you like and what your dancing looks like,” Terryberry explained.
Sponsors are Imperial Credit Union, Liewer Funeral Home, Carman’s Appliance, Adams Drug, Kwik Stop and A+ Brokerage.
