The sixth annual Imperial Volunteer Fire Department’s Fun Day was a big success Saturday, July 4, according to Chairman Skip Kelly. About 300 children attended the informational, fun day.
Held at the Chase County Schools’ old football field this year, the Fun Day included a dunk tank, a smoke trailer, 20 teams participating in water fights, a demonstration of the Jaws of Life, a demonstration of a rope climb and tours of the ambulances, fire trucks and Dive, Rescue and Recovery Team’s trailer. Other water activities were available for kids.
In addition, the CCS FFA sponsored a mud volleyball tournament at the Chase County Fairgrounds, with 16 teams participating.
Kelly said 800 hot dogs were consumed, as well as a pallet of watermelon and a pallet of water bottles. Soft drinks were also served.
The IVFD, the IVFD Auxiliary and the Imperial FFA helped with the day.
In addition, Kelly recognized Hills Family Foods, Imperial Super Foods, Imperial Country Ford and 21st Century for their help.
The location of the Fun Day was changed from the fairgrounds to the football field this year. Kelly said it “worked out great and was a good, centralized location.” He added that there was plenty of water available for demonstrations, and that everyone seemed to like the new location.
The grass was nicer, too, Kelly noted.
