A full slate of 16 teams returned to their homes Saturday afternoon with a severe need for washing machines after the Imperial FFA’s mud volleyball tournament.
The tournament, held at the fairgrounds, was organized once again by the FFA in conjunction with the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department’s (IVFD) Fourth of July Fun Day.
Teams of two guys and two girls advanced through a single elimination bracket.
Teams ranged from seventh grade age to some with members who were 40-plus years old, said FFA Advisor Jason Speck.
The first place team was Hadley Hill, Brian Lee, Sarah Miller and RyAnn Spady. They received $100 in Chamber Bucks.
Second place went to the team of Preston Bernhardt, Edgar Almanza, Nichole Dickey and Cara Kunnemann. They won $80 in Chamber Bucks.
The third place team was Casey Francis, Elisha Sanchez, Rebecca Martin and Emily Ringleman, and they won $60 in Chamber Bucks.
Participation in the tournament was free. Speck said they organize it each year as a community service project.
The IVFD provided the prizes for the tournament.
Speck said they had good crowds at the tournament despite the fact the other Fun Day activities were held at the Wellington St. football field this year.
The FFA is planning to organize another mud tourney next Fourth of July.
This year’s tourney concluded right after three hours of play, Speck said.
