Ninth St. Singers compete at finals in Scottsbluff festival PDF Print E-mail

Chase County’s 9th St. Singers were among the 23 groups performing at the Scottsbluff Old West ChoirFest Saturday including show choirs from western Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado.
Groups were divided into five divisions based on school size and numbers. Preliminary performances ran throughout the day with finalists competing in the evening. Finalists included the division winners, next two highest point totals and a wild card.
Chase County’s 9th St. Singers earned a Gold Trophy in the preliminary round and the group was selected back to compete in the finals that night, said Director Randy Hayes.
This is the 17th year the 9th St. Singers have performed at the Old West ChoirFest. Eight groups in this year’s festival were from Riverton, Wyo. and the Denver area. The three finalist winners announced at the completion of the festival were from the Denver area, Hayes said.
“With only two seniors in our group, we are very young and some members of our group were on stage for the first time,” Hayes said.
“Our singers performed really well, especially our second performance during the finals,” he said.
Adding even more excitement to their second performance was the audience response and the many parents who supported the 9th St. Singers throughout the day, Hayes concluded.
