Countdown on towards wheat harvest PDF Print E-mail

Within seven to 10 days, wheat farmers will most likely take to the field to bring in this year’s crop. Growing conditions this spring proved really conducive for this year’s crop and with summer now here, temperatures in the 90s this week are bringing the wheat towards maturity. Wheat isn’t the only crop to benefit from the recent high temperatures. As the corn is maturing, this year’s corn crop is exploding growth-wise. With the good moisture the area has been receiving this spring, center irrigation pivots have been able to sit idle. This represents a huge contrast to just several years ago when, in the midst of a seven-year drought, pivots were forced into use to water the new corn crop up. (Republican photos)
