Jaws of Life to be explained at museum PDF Print E-mail
The Chase County Museum will host the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department this Sunday, June 28. Volunteers from the fire department will be on hand to demonstrate some of the equipment.
The original tools and equipment for the “Jaws of Life” were purchased in the mid-80’s with money from fund-raisers (miscellaneous benefit auctions and community donations) and a substantial donation from Chuck Adams and Super Foods. No tax dollars were spent on the purchase.
In the past year, the fire department has replaced and updated all of the heavy power equipment with income from the investment of donated funds. This new equipment is lighter to carry, easier to us and more versatile.
Jaws equipment presently in the department includes a gas-operated power unit, cutters, spreaders, rams, and air bags for lifting. These tools have tremendous force—up to 50,000 pounds!
The original equipment has been given to the Lamar Fire Department.
The Chase County Museum hours on Sunday are 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The fire department program will begin at 2 p.m.
On July 5, will be the tribute to the Champion Mill. If anyone has articles or pictures of the Mill that could be display then, please contact Carol Maddux at 308 394-5348.
