Dan Lenners is Artist of the month in August
Dan Lenners of Imperial is the Artist of the Month for August at the Chase County Community Hospital, where his original watercolor paintings are being displayed through Aug. 31.
Several are also hanging in the Chase County Clinic in Imperial.
Lenners was raised in Beatrice and said he enjoyed various art classes throughout his formative years and while attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln (UNL).
He received a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from UNL in 1977 and his Master of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney in 1988.
He taught in the Lincoln Public School systems for a year in 1978-79, and since 19a teacher and coach at Chase County Schools.
Three of his mentors/teachers have given him inspiration and guidance, he said. Gary Nichols, his high school art instructor; Mike Miller, photographer and journalist; and the late Bud Stenger, who taught him woodcarving on fence posts, all have been influences on his work.
Watercolor has always been one of his favorite medias. His work depicts bold vibrant colors, soft pastels and a wide range of subject matter.
He was awarded “Best of Show” in the Northeast Colorado Art Show in 1993 and in the Diamonds & Spurs Rotary International Art Show in Boulder, Colo., in 1998.
His work has also been exhibited as part of the Chase County Art Council’s traveling art show across Nebraska in the mid to late 1990s.
Lenners and his wife, Jane, have two grown sons, Gabe, 27, who lives in Los Angeles; and Grant, 22, a student at the University of Oklahoma.
