Saturday marked the second annual Amanda (Poppe) Johnson Memorial tournament, held at the Enders Lake Golf Course.
The tournament is held in memory of Amanda Johnson, who passed away suddenly in June, 2013 at the young age of 26.
The tournament was first organized last year by Steven Poppe of Grand Island, an uncle of Amanda’s.
A missing man flyover by spray pilots Rob and Dave Aslesen of Imperial and pilot Stan Jones of Benkelman served as the kickoff to Saturday’s tournament.
Aslesens were flying spray planes while Jones flew over in a T-6 Texan trainer. The T-6 is a single-engined advanced trainer aircraft used to train U.S. pilots  during World War II and into the 1970s.
Three other young people who died far too young were also recognized with a picture sign on the course. They included Logan Bauman of Parker Colo., Cody Fanning of Wauneta and Jeremy Eichner of Ogallala.
The three were friends or relatives of Craig and Yvonne Poppe, Amanda’s parents.
