SCORE science camps off to smokin’ start PDF Print E-mail

This week’s SCORE science camps in and around Imperial got off to, literally, a smokin’ start Monday with programs in the school auditorium. At left, John Thompson, director of operations at Aurora’s Edgerton Explorit Center,  wows the audience as he spilled liquid nitrogen onto the stage. He and colleague Ken Schroeder will be here all week for sessions with the grade 1-6 campers. Below, left, Dr. Dennis Ferraro, a herpetologist from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, shows this Northern water snake, one of six he brought out during his opening presentation Monday morning in the school auditorium. He said Nebraska has 64 snakes identified within its borders, and for the most part, he said snakes are a misunderstood species. Dr. Ferraro, too, is here all week for the SCORE camp. Among the youngsters enjoying the two opening sessions Monday morning were, from left, Destyn Milner, Caleb Bubak and Jared Sharp. (Republican photos)
