Legion teams fall to Broken Bow, McCook

Imperial’s Legion teams came out on the short end in games against Broken Bow last Thursday and McCook Tuesday.
The juniors lost a close one to Broken Bow, 8-7.
Going into the fifth, the score was tied 2-2. Broken Bow scored three runs, all three coming after an error with two outs in the inning.
The juniors answered back with four in the bottom of the fifth on singles by Will Kuenne, Jorge Cervantes and Bryce Zuege.
They added another run in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-5 lead but left bases loaded.
Broken Bow got three runs in the top of the seventh while Imperial stranded the tieing run at third in the bottom of the seventh.
Cervantes led the team at the plate, going 3-4 including a triple. Kuenne went 2-4.
Nolan Spady went five innings on the mound with Jack Bauerle coming on in relief in the sixth.
In senior action, Imperial’s only two runs came in the bottom of the second.
Broken Bow scored one in the first and seven in the second. They added three more in the top of the third for the 11-2 win.
Cervantes led the hitting with a double on two appearances at the plate. Kuenne added the only other hit.
Jake Leuth opened on the mound with Darin Knobbe coming on in relief in the third.
At McCook Tuesday, The juniors came up with two runs on six hits while giving up 25 runs on 18 hits to McCook. Kuenne led the team, going 2-2.
The seniors tallied six runs on seven hits in their game but gave up 14 runs on 10 hits in the loss.
Cervantes went 2-3 with a double while Travis Luhrs was 2-3 with a pair of singles.
The Legion teams played Lexington Saturday and played host to Cozad Sunday. Coverage of those games will appear next week.
Imperial site for jr. tourney
Imperial will serve as the host team for the Class C Area 7 Legion tournament July 10-14.
Other teams competing in the tournament include Curtis, Bertrand-Loomis, Bridgeport, Alma and Overton.
The winner will advance to the Class C state tournament in Dodge July 18-22.
The seniors’ Area tournament will be held in Alma July 24-28. The state tournament will be held in Battle Creek Aug. 1-5.
