School colors for the junior high have been an issue since the former Imperial Grade School and Chase County High School consolidated into one Chase County Schools K-12 system four years ago.
Green and white have been the grade school colors, while the high school has worn orange and black.
Now that new junior high track uniforms are needed, according to Activities Director Mark Bottom at a recent school board meeting, the board of education was forced to make a “color” decision at the June 9 regular meeting.
Although a 6-3 straw poll among the board favored the orange and black colors, there wasn’t a strong consensus either way.
The price tag would be $14,000 to change all uniforms to orange and black at the same time, so the board opted to make the change gradually as old uniforms are replaced.
The junior high track uniforms for the 2010 season will be the first sporting the orange and black colors.
