Race Director Kelsey Owens already has more preregistered than last year for Saturday’s second annual Joggin’ for Frogmen 5K race in Imperial.
Hoping to top last year’s 75 participants in the 5K, she was already at 80 preregistrations on Tuesday. With that, she’s also expecting to top last year’s fundraising goal that hit nearly $11,000.
This year’s event will get underway Saturday with registration and packet pickup from 7 to 8:45 a.m. at Campbell Park, where the 5K race will start at 9:15 a.m.
The Tadpole Trot for kids up to age six will start at 10:15 a.m.
State Sen. Dan Hughes of Venango will talk briefly during opening ceremonies at 9 a.m.
New this year will be an after-race barbecue in the park, Owens said. Participants with their race bib can eat for $5 a plate. Others can join the meal at $7 per plate. Proceeds from the meal will also go toward fundraising, she said.
Awards will be many again.
All 5K finishers will receive a Joggin’ for Frogmen medal (which is also a bottle opener) and a race t-shirt.
All kids who register and complete the Tadpole Trot will receive a Joggin’ for Frogmen t-shirt and a Tadpole Trot finisher prize. Tadpoles can also run in the 5K with their parents for free, but will not receive a 5K medal, Owens said.
Registrations are still open for both the 5K and Tadpole Trot. People can sign up Friday at 509 Broadway or pick up preregistered packets that day and receive a 20 percent discount in the store.
Owens said runners can also register Saturday morning at the park.
The awards ceremony starts at 10:45 a.m. with the following additional awards to be distributed:
