Imperial United Methodist Women host May breakfast PDF Print E-mail

The Imperial United Methodist Women hosted their annual May breakfast at the church May 6.
The theme for the day was “Spring In/Spring Out.” This was carried out with the use of various bird houses and birds throughout the table décor. A live bird in a cage even sang at appropriate times throughout the morning.
Sandra Nelson, president of the local UMW, welcomed the group. Alice Lindekugel offered the morning blessing.
The group was favored by several numbers from an enthusiastic group of children from the Rainbow Promise Preschool.
Melody Newman accompanied and led the group in singing “Morning Has Broken.”
Sandra Nelson introduced District Conference officers of the United Methodist Women and pastors and the CLM’s of the local church as well as recognizing guests from other UMW groups from Benkelman, Culbertson, Elsie, Grant, Palisade, Wauneta and McCook.
Also present were guests from other churches in Imperial including St. Patrick’s Catholic, Berean Church, Crossroads Wesleyan, Imperial Bible, Christian Faith Outreach, Westside Church of Christ and Zion Lutheran. There were nearly 100 in attendance.
Elna Johnson introduced the guest speaker Pastor Valera Haydenberk who carried out the theme of “Spring In/Spring Out”. She shared the importance of sharing the Holy Spirit with children. She and her husband, Jerry, have written a devotional book which is non-denominational and shares a parent’s guide on introducing the Holy Spirit to young children.
Pastor Valera was presented this year’s special membership pin by Elna Johnson. This honor recognizes someone who has been an inspiration to the local unit. A monetary gift has been given to the National United Methodist Women for Missions in honor of this year’s honoree.
As a closing, Melody Newman led the group in sings “Showers of Blessings.”
