Hospital staff takes part in disaster training, preparation PDF Print E-mail

Staff from Chase County Community Hospital, in conjunction with several regional facilities and agencies, recently participated in setting up a Mobile Medical Asset (MMA) Unit at Community Hospital in McCook.
MMAs are “MASH”-type units which could be utilized if a facility would have to evacuate patients, set up an alternative care site due to an influx of patients as the result of a mass causality incident or other internal or external event.
They are available to assist hospitals, nursing homes and health departments.
Participating in the drill in addition to McCook and Chase County Hospital staff were Perkins County Health Services, Grant; Great Plains Health, North Platte; and Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook.
In McCook for the training Feb. 26 from Chase County Community Hospital were Director of Nursing Kathy Geier and Angela Herbert, patient safety coordinator.
Attendees unloaded and set up the supplies from the MMA practice trailer and discussed various topics including weight limits, expiration dates and personnel job assignments, along with the process necessary to request an MMA. Participants also learned how much room and manpower it would require to set up a unit.
