The first annual 5K Race to Finish MS is coming up March 28 in Imperial. Registration forms are available at Imperial Super Foods and the Imperial City office or email Emily Vogt at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The race will begin and end in the 100 block of West 5th Street at 9 a.m. According to organizer Emily Vogt, it will  have “different terrains, a hill, some dirt road, a little sandy and rocky in spots, and then the paved streets.”
Vogt said as of Tuesday, she had received 70 entries.
Participants can walk, run or push strollers, “however anyone wants to participate is fine,” Vogt explained.
There will be prizes for the overall male and female runners and then first and second place in both male and female age categories.
Children under age 12 can participate for free and have the option of purchasing a youth t-shirt for $10.
Registration is $35. It included a t-shirt if registration was received by March 8.
Packet pickups will be at 509 Broadway March 27 after 10 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. the day of the race for those not previously registered.
Vogt, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in October 2013, said, “I feel very grateful to be able to put this race on to help others with MS who haven’t been as fortunate as myself.”
She is still soliciting donations to cover costs involved with putting on the race.
Money raised by the event will be donated to the National MS Society Mid-America Chapter and will be used to find the cause, treatment and ultimately the cure of MS, she said.
In addition, it will be used to provide education, information, direct financial support and scholarships to individuals and families living with MS.
