More overnight hosts needed for BRAN’s start in Wauneta in June

The Wauneta Breeze
Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) riders are already reaching out, looking for places to stay while in Chase County.
BRAN riders will arrive in Wauneta on June 6, prior to the June 7 start of BRAN 35.
Wauneta BRAN committee co-chair Joey Large said bed-a-biker requests continue to come into the
email account and more hosts are needed.
Large explained bed-a-biker hosts offer BRAN riders and their families or support members a place to sleep. At their discretion, they can also provide shower facilities and breakfast for the riders. In return, BRAN riders pay their hosts a fee for opening their homes.
Potential hosts will have the opportunity to visit with BRAN riders who wish to take advantage of the bed-a-biker program prior to their arrival. Hosts and potential guests can talk through sleeping arrangements and the availability of showers and meals as well as the fee required for staying with a host.
Those who are interested in opening their homes to BRAN riders are asked to contact Large at 308-394-5350 or email the local BRAN committee at
More meal options needed
During a community meeting held in Wauneta March 1, it was determined additional meal options were still needed for Saturday, June 6.
Organizers estimate that between 700 and 1,000 riders, family members and BRAN officials will arrive in Wauneta the afternoon of Saturday, June 6. That evening, they will need places to eat.
As of Sunday, two organizations, Mercy Meals of Southwest Nebraska and the Lions Club, are planning to provide meals. Good Times Bar and Wauneta Crossroads are also planning to have meal specials for the visitors.
Groups who would like to take advantage of the fundraising opportunity BRAN 35 brings are encouraged to contact Large at 308-394-5350 or email the local BRAN committee at
BRAN fund established
A fund has been established through the Village of Wauneta where current and past residents can send contributions to help support Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska’s (BRAN) start in Wauneta.
BRAN committee co-chair Large said the funds raised will be used to purchase community promotion bags which will be handed out to BRAN riders, to offset the costs related to bringing portable restrooms in for the riders and to cover promotion costs.
Those who would like to financially contribute to the Wauneta committee’s efforts and preparations for BRAN 35 may send tax deductible contributions to Joey Large, Wauneta BRAN Chair at P.O. Box 511, Wauneta, NE 69045. Checks should be made payable to the “Village of Wauneta” and include a notation of “BRAN 35” on the check.
