Two graduated Lady Longhorns played in a pair of all-star basketball games in the last two weekends.
On May 29, Nichole Dickey and Morgan Strand played on the West Team in the CSO East/West contest in Cambridge.
Last Friday, June 5, Strand also played in the girls’ all-star basketball game hosted by Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte.
Strand and Dickey were on the winning West Team that defeated the East, 90-84, in Cambridge May 29. Strand was among five on the West Team in double figures that night, scoring 11 points.
Dickey also got on the board, scoring four points in the second half in the West’s winning effort.
Wauneta’s Blair Dixon was also in double figures for the West with 12 points.
The CSO game included 10-minute quarters, and coaches were required to play five of their athletes the first five minutes of the first quarter, then play the other five the rest of the quarter.
The second quarter ran the same way. In the second half, players got in at the coach’s discretion.
Last Friday night, Strand was in North Platte for the third annual Mid-Plains Area all-star basketball game on the Black Team.
The Gold Team took the win in that contest, 63-57. It was a close, back-and-forth game with the score tied several times, including a 57-57 knot-up with 2:20 left in the game.
Strand contributed on offense for the Black, scoring eight points.
West Nebraska All-Star Games
Morgan Strand was also picked to play in last Saturday’s West Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Game in Scottsbluff, but had to make a choice between the Mid-Plains basketball game, played the night before, and Scottsbluff.
    She chose the Mid-Plains game.
Two Longhorn football players, Daniel Morales and Jeremy Mathews, were to play in the West Nebraska Football Game, as well, on Saturday in Scottsbluff, but did not see action due to disciplinary action.
