Former resident earns police employee award PDF Print E-mail

Kevin Berry was awarded the Spokane Police Department’s first Quarter Employee of the Year Award for 2014 at the annual employee awards ceremony in Spokane, Was.
Nominations were based on a specific act of unusual meritorious service, a specific project of significance to the community, city or department or sustained superior performance of assigned duties.
The department’s Evidence Facility Supervisor nominated Berry for the award.
The following came from the nomination form:
“Kevin joined the Spokane Police/Spokane County Evidence Facility in March 2006. He has a unique ability to assess work tasks and environments, and is a successful team worker.
“He constantly looks for opportunities to make the job more efficient and never hesitates to offer suggestions. Many of his suggestions have led to process improvement within the unit, thus improving the overall evidence function of the Spokane Police Department and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
“In addition to his assigned tasks, Kevin maintains the database operations, and monitors the technical database functions and liaison with vendors and departmental computer specialist. Kevin is the lead trainer for all new employees.”
It was noted the Evidence Facility was recently recognized as a model for others to follow resulting in an invitation to participate on the WASPC accreditation team as the expert in Evidence Management. Berry was chosen to be on the accreditation team and has attended training through WASPC.
Berry has assisted in redrafting the internal Standard Operating Procedure and Training Manual. He works with the Department of Licensing to develop the ability to auction abandoned “evidence” vehicles resulting in thousands of dollars added to the auction proceed fund.
He is a Certified property and Evidence Manager through the International Association of Property and Evidence.
Berry is a 1997 graduate of Chase County High School and is the son of Ron and Becky Berry of Imperial.
He and his wife Heidi live in Spokane.
