Some of area’s finest chili in competition next week PDF Print E-mail

Get out the beans or whatever you like to put in your chili, and mix up a batch to enter into the Imperial Chamber of Commerce’s fourth snnual Chili Cook-Off Contest.
The popular event is scheduled for March 12 at the city gym in Imperial.
Participants may set up at 5 p.m., judges will taste the entries at 5:30 p.m. and the public is invited to try all the entries at 6 p.m.
Chili will be judged on color, aroma, texture, flavor and heat.
Prizes include $50 in Chamber Bucks for first place, $25 for second place, $15 for third place and an apron for People’s Choice.
If there is a tie between entries, the tie breaker will be based upon presentation.
The first place winner’s name will be engraved on the traveling trophy housed in Lied Imperial Public Library.
Chairman Jack Schneider said people may bring their favorite chili recipes in a four to six-quart slow cooker.
He hopes for 10 or more chefs.
“It’s friendly competition,” he noted. The Chamber would like copies of the recipes used to be published in a booklet of “Imperial, Nebraska’s award-winning chili recipes.”
